BITES has a unique position in delivering AR applications for the maintenance community thanks to a long experience in Computer based and virtual training technologies. BITES Augmented Reality Assisted Maintenance Training & Support System reuses the content developed for the interactive multimedia instruction applications or Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals and publish it out to an augmented reality environment leveraging all the stuff that the technician has already seen and give them tools to re-familiarize themselves in the field on tablet devices or smart glasses. Beyond just familiarization, this approach connects the maintenance task force to other kinds of data feeds of logistics or parts in addition to training feeds. This product was developed for the Turkish Navy in close cooperation with Anadolu Shipyard to be used in the Engine Room of the New Type Fast Patrol Boats. The product includes an AR Maintenance Scenario Authoring Tool called smartAR that utilizes augmentation with computer generated sound, video, graphics and position data on any camera-enabled mobile or wearable device. The tool provides a rapid development framework for the Maintenance Augmented Reality scenarios with interactive 3D content support with the following features: - easy access and interaction with part specifications, - step-by-step guidance, - inventory information, - images, animations, sounds, text, videos and other instructional content, - 2D and 3D graphical overlays on top of real-world objects, - live data feeds.
