Local Data Storage (LDS) Module

Ravenswood Solutions' Mobile Ground Truth System (MGTS), also known as "FlexTrain," tracks and monitors the movements of dismounted players, vehicles or aircraft via a radio known as the FREDI-2. Ravenswood's newest innovation, the Local Data Storage (LDS) module, is used in conjunction with the FREDI-2 player unit to record time-space-position information (TSPI) and real-time casualty assessment (RTCA) data, regardless of transmission rate or radio-frequency (RF) network availability. The LDS can be clipped onto the front of the FREDI-2 once the dust cover has been removed. It communicates with the FREDI-2 via the FlexTrain InterModular Protocol (FIMP) port and records protocol data units (PDU) onto an internal SD card at 4 Hz. Ravenswood's newest innovation, the Local Data Storage (LDS) module, is used in conjunction with the FREDI-2 player unit to record time-space-position information (TSPI) and real-time casualty assessment (RTCA) data, regardless of transmission rate or radio-frequency (RF) network availability. The LDS can be clipped onto the front of the FREDI-2 once the dust cover has been removed. It communicates with the FREDI-2 via the FlexTrain InterModular Protocol (FIMP) port and records protocol data units (PDU) onto an internal SD card at 4 Hz. Under typical fielded conditions, the LDS can record approximately 350 days of data before reaching storage capacity. Although the SD card can be removed, Wi-Fi is the primary download method for uploading LDS data into the MGTS system. First, a rugged Windows tablet runs the LDS Collector application to simultaneously gather data from up to 50 LDS-fitted FREDI-2s within a 10 m radius. Then the LDS data is uploaded over Wi-Fi into the MGTS software, known as ORION, for data packaging. Ravenswood merges the LDS-captured data with FREDI-2 data transmitted over-the-air (OTA) to create a high-fidelity common operating picture (COP).
