C-RAM LPWS OMT for US Army

In June of 2018 DiSTI delivered to the U.S. Army the Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (C-RAM) Land-Based Phalanx Weapon System (LPWS) Operator and Maintainer Trainer (OMT). C-RAM was developed in order to protect ground forces and forward operating bases from the threat of rockets, artillery and mortars and is made up of several systems that detect, warn, respond, intercept, control, shape and protect deployed forces. The virtual training solution is designed to train air defense artillery teams on the procedures for operating and maintaining one of the Army’s most complex weapons systems in a safe and controlled environment while delivering an immersive and engaging student experience. C-RAM was developed in order to protect ground forces and forward operating bases from the threat of rockets, artillery and mortars and is made up of several systems that detect, warn, respond, intercept, control, shape and protect deployed forces. The virtual training solution is designed to train air defense artillery teams on the procedures for operating and maintaining one of the Army’s most complex weapons systems in a safe and controlled environment while delivering an immersive and engaging student experience. The final delivery supports U.S. Army training institutions with standard classroom configuration and active units with ruggedized field-delivered laptops. The classroom configuration includes twelve Student Stations networked to an Instructor Operator Station (IOS). The unit laptops meet the demand for mobile refresher training in the field. The training system includes a virtual training environment with over 115 operator and maintainer procedures and several modes of training that support free play, tutorial, practice, and assessment. Each classroom’s IOS enables instructors to manage the training system, author procedural lessons, and monitor student progress. The complexities of the training include: • Operator training for site selection, deploying the piece for operations, loading, radar setup and gunnery operations • Maintainer training for vehicle and machinery maintenance in harsh environments. • Visualization of the complex belt feed mechanisms in operation while the device is being fired – something operators or maintainers would not be able to do while operating the equipment in real-life • Simulation of 7 different feed jams and corrective procedures to clear them. Up to 2,000 soldiers may pass through the classrooms per year to match the production and delivery of C-RAM to units both domestically and in-theater. The deployed laptops will offer refresher training to overseas units and provide version upgrade training in the field for the life of the program. Lessons can be systematically updated with new training information/steps/procedures as new variants of C-RAM are developed and deployed.
